ABIBO EMERGES NUP RIVERS CHAIRMAN

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Rivers State Council has held its Delegates Congress on the 24th of March 2014 that ushers in new officers that will run the affairs of the pensioners for the next four years in Rivers State.
Comrade Edward Festus-Abibo (fcai) was re-elected as the State’s Chairman.
Other officers elected with him were: Chief T.B.Tornwini (JP)-Vice-Chairman, Com. Apostle E.N.Obia- Treasurer, Com. Kadala Aminiokuma- State Internal Auditor, Gabriel Emiedoki- Trustee 1, Chief E. Moses- Trustee II, Ven. S.F. Ifuyok- Exco Member, Rev. Kio Offah – EXco Member,Chief Promise Amagbo – Exco Member, Mrs. Tam. T. Dappa – Exco. Member, and Chief Anthony A. Alozie – Exco Member.
In his acceptance speech and vote of thanks, the re-elected Chairman thanked the delegates for their trust in him and his team, assuring them of  more service delivery and added that what is needed most is prayers for Gods intervention to touch the heart of His Excellency  Rt. Hon. Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi to change his mind towards pensioners plight by approving the Primary School teachers payment of their Federal monthly Share which became the responsibility of all the State Governments since 2002, Rivers State Government inclusive .
The State Chairman Festus-Abibo lamented that several efforts, appeal solicited directly to the Governor of the State and through other sources like Eminent Clergymen, Electronic Media, Top Civil Servants, Traditional Leader of the State, Ogbako.  Ikwerre Leaders and National Human Right Commission Abuja have proved abortive. 
It will be recalled that the last four years tenure of the immediate past Union officers with the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Edwards Festus- Abibo had staged two peaceful protest for the non-payment of the 6% and 15% pension increases which most other states of the Federation have since implemented to their pensioners. 
The election was conducted by the union National Vice-President South/South Comrade (Elder) T.S.D. Sukuye, and Asst. General Secretary (Finance) Comrade Everest Njoku who described the election as peaceful, orderly and impressive.
Sukuye called on the elected officers not to disappoint the people (pensioners), as he  advised the pensioners to continue to co-operate with State officers for a better service delivery.Image
